August Update from the Co-op; Next Board Meeting Sept 10

Posted on August 17, 2025

Board Members Wanted!
We are looking for people passionate about community building and building a bouldering gym in the MWV Valley to join our Board of Directors!  Feel like you don’t fit the mold of “climber” or “Board Member?”  That’s ok!  We’re looking for people with diverse experience and backgrounds to help forward our mission of opening a space that’s welcoming and accessible to all.  Find out more here and email [email protected] if you’re interested or with questions.

Looking for Storage Space
The Co-op has amassed a collection of equipment to outfit a gym, including some large pads, and we need to move our collection to a new storage space by Sept 1.  We’ve identified storage spaces that will work, but if anyone has leads for options at below-market rates, please reach out.

Looking for Commercial Rental Space
The Co-op has raised funds, collected equipment like wall panels, holds, and pads, but our biggest obstacle to opening a gym has been finding an affordable rental space in close approximation to the Mount Washington Valley.  If you have any leads, please contact us!

Climber Coffee!
We’ve got 2 more Climber Coffee events remaining this summer: Aug 23 & 30 from 8:30-10:30 at the Cathedral Ledge picnic area at the base of the cliff.  FREE coffee courtesy of North Conway’s own Bagels PlusSavage Gear aka The Gear Doc has been joining us with baked goods and snacks.  Thank you!

August Update from the Board of Directors
The Board of Directors met for our monthly meeting on August 13.  Here are the highlights:

  • We’re continuing a conversation with a property owner in Conway who’s interested in leasing space to the Co-op.  The property would need various upgrades which are beyond the scope of the Co-op before it would be a viable space, so this is still in the exploratory stage.
  • We continue to look at rental spaces, including one in Glen next week.
  • We’re starting to plan the Co-op’s Annual Membership Meeting.  This will likely be held in December.  More details to come!
  • We continue to develop our use of What’s App for an organizational tool, and we’ve started developing committees that will have the autonomy to carry out the work of the Co-op.  These organizational tools will put us in a better position to carry out the work of operating a community gym.
  • We’re looking into grants that might be available to non-profits who need financial assistance to build-out their space.

Our next Board of Directors meeting will be Sept 10.  Meetings take place at 6:30pm upstairs at IME.  Public welcome!

Questions?  Want to get involved?  Email [email protected] or join us at our next Board of Directors meeting.   We’re always looking for new people to get involved in the co-op.  A virtual link will also be available for remote attendance.  Email us for the link.
